To be Sisters today, we come to vowed religious life with a wide range of experiences. We've earned undergraduate and graduate degrees and mapped out career paths. We have years of services in the corporate, public or nonprofit sectors. Some of us are widowed mothers as Anna Bachmann was when she founded our Franciscan community in Philadelphia more than 150 years ago. Whatever our experience, we share a deep desire for spiritual growth and seek a community whose daily life reflects dedication to Gospel values.
We invite women to pray, to visit and to volunteer on our campus or at our ministries. We support thoughtful consideration of a deeply rewarding commitment. The transition from secular to religious life begins in consultation with a vocation director and with others Sisters and encompasses the study of Franciscan traditions, values and way of life.
As a woman’s commitment grows, she participates in the life and ministry of the community. During the novitiate phase of initiation into our religious way of life, the woman joins us in an intercommunity preparation program to learn more about Franciscan values and the Franciscan way of life. Only after several years of prayerful consideration will a woman make a lifetime commitment.
