Sisters Go Forward with Courage and Faith, Trusting in God's Providence

When called to leave Chicago and begin a new community to serve those in need in Pittsburgh, our Sisters answered and went where Providence led us.

God calls us again, and we will answer and go where Providence leads us.

In early October, seventeen of our senior sisters from our Pittsburgh motherhouse will move into personal care and skilled nursing communities at Presbyterian SeniorCare, located in Oakmont, PA. Twenty-one of our Sisters will continue to live and work on our Whitehall campus and the surrounding areas. This move comes after years of discernment and reflection concerning an extensive study conducted by our congregation, in conjunction with several regional healthcare providers, including Presbyterian SeniorCare.  This study showed that it would become increasingly difficult for us to continue the care for our senior sisters at home.

“We have witnessed the courage and faith of our sisters in accepting this new direction, particularly by the sisters who will be missioned to making Presbyterian SeniorCare their new home,” said Sister Joanne Brazinski, our congregation’s general minister.

Difficult as it is, the move has given our sisters a new enthusiasm and a renewed sense of mission. “The partnership with Presbyterian SeniorCare will help us provide for the long-term needs of our senior sisters, as well as allow us to focus on our legacy of mission and service,” said Sister Joanne. “I want to assure the congregation’s many supporters and friends that we will continue the various ministries we are currently involved in, including pastoral care, counseling, child day care, and retreats, among others.” (Continued on Back)

Among the key factors in selecting Presbyterian SeniorCare is its ability to care for all seventeen sisters at one location in Oakmont, which offers a continuum of senior services from personal care to skilled nursing. “Presbyterian SeniorCare met our criteria on every level and has proven a collaborative partner,” says Sister Joanne.

With support from Presbyterian SeniorCare, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God are working on a long-term plan for the future.

“We have had a relationship with the Sisters for more than fifteen years, providing consulting and management services,” Said Presbyterian SeniorCare Senior Vice President James Pieffer. “As an organization that welcomes older adults from all walks of life and of many diverse backgrounds, we are dedicated to making the transition as smooth as possible as we welcome the sisters into their new homes with us.”
