Giving Opportunities
“It takes a noble man to plant a seed for a tree that will some day give shade to people he may never meet.”

Wills and Bequests
Naming the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God in your will is the simplest and most common planned gift. You can (a) state that you wish to donate a specific amount to the Sisters, (b) a percentage of your estate, or (c) the residue of your estate (the amount remaining after you have provided for your family and other beneficiaries). If your will is already in place consult with your attorney about adding a codicil. Any charitable bequest to the Sisters is removed from your taxable estate and is not subject to estate taxes.
Life Insurance
Making a gift of life insurance is one way that many individuals can make a much larger gift than they may otherwise have thought possible.
Give a Paid-Up Policy
Most persons own life insurance, including policies they may find they may no longer need. Transferring ownership of a paid-up policy to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God is a way to make a significant contribution at no additional cost to you.
Buy a New Policy
By purchasing a new policy and naming the Sisters as the beneficiary and owner, you can make a larger gift with smaller regular payments. In addition, future premiums paid are deductible as cash contributions.
Retirement Assets
Naming the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God as a beneficiary of retirement assets (IRA’s, 401K’s, etc.) is another way to provide support for the congregation. By doing so, the owner continues to receive anticipated returns from the retirement account during his/her lifetime. At death, the entire account value passes tax-free to the congregation. Or, there is a partial tax credit savings when you leave the Sisters a specified amount and your family the remainder.
Charitable Gift Annuity
The Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God have an agreement with the Diocese of Pittsburgh’s Planned Giving Office wherein the Diocese will act as the administrator and fund manager for a charitable gift annuity created with the Sisters as the recipient of the cash or other assets as described below.
Charitable Gift Annuities are attractive vehicles for donors who want to make a meaningful gift to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God and enjoy secure fixed incomes for life.
What exactly is a Charitable Gift Annuity?
A Charitable Gift Annuity made to benefit the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God is a simple contract between the donor and the Diocese of Pittsburgh. In exchange for an irrevocable gift of cash or negotiable securities, the Diocese, on behalf of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God, agrees to pay the donor so named a fixed sum each year of life. Upon the donor’s death, any unused portion of the gift annuity is directed to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God. For a two-life Charitable Gift Annuity, a person receives specified payments for life and, after his or her death, the annuity payments will continue for the life of another person.
The gift program is reserved for donors/annuitants who have reached 55 years of age. Regardless of your age, the minimum amount to establish an annuity with the Diocese of Pittsburgh (acting for the Sisters of St. Francis of the Providence of God) is $5,000 for a one-life annuity and $10,000 for a two-life or deferred annuity. The rate of return is determined at the time the gift annuity is funded.
